This bowl was hand machined from steel and bronze. The heavy base is meant to keep a food hot for a long time. The ball bearing is an alternative to a lid. As some lids over steamy hot food collect the condensation that drips right back into the food when lifted, this lid will allow the steam to escape while still keeping the food very hot.
